Firstly can I thank the club for inviting me to judge the Dog Classes, it was a bitter sweet day as my best friend and mentor was sadly missing, but I’m sure she was looking down on us. I'd like to thank the exhibitors for their entries and their kind words afterwards 


Class 1 - Veteran Dog (Entries: 5 Absent: 1)

1st       Williams’ SH CH Isfryn Spot The Difference Trebettyn VW – looking well for his 10 years and you could see he enjoyed his day out, nice head and eye, good front neck and shoulders, good topline and tailset, very well turned out and still a stylish mover, BVIS 

2nd      Woodhams’ Glynell Jiffy – again looking well for his age, lovely head and eye good front legs and feet, well developed middle piece, well rounded quarters, sound mover.

Class 2 - Special Working Dog (Entries: 0)

Class 3 - Baby Puppy Dog (Entries: 1 Absent: 0)

1st       Rees’ Merchinetes Taliesin at Typica – very promising pup, so well put together, sweetest of heads, well boned and well made front assembly, good rear angulation, and moved really well at this tender age, I predict a bright future for this young man.

Class 4 - Minor Puppy Dog (Entries: 2 Absent: 1)

1st       Dunne & Dunne’s Highslade Edge of Glory – good headed youngster, well developed body, good neck and shoulders and rear angulation, shown in lovely coat and condition, would have liked him to show with a little more confidence.

Class 5 - Puppy Dog (Entries: 3 Absent: 0)

1st        Philipson’s Menstonia Endless Dreams – well developed pup typical head with a kind eye, best of legs and feet, and good neck and shoulders, well developed middle piece, correct topline and tailset, shown in lovely coat and condition, moved soundly, BPIS

2nd      Dunne & Dunne’s Highslade Edge of Glory

3rd      Price’s Amblelight Red Champio

Class 6 - Junior Dog (Entries: 5 Absent: 1)

1st       Johnson & Langley’s Santallina Coroebus – I was really taken with this young boy, lovely worked head with a kind eye, best of legs and feet, good neck and shoulders, well developed middle piece, strong well made quarters,  still needs a little more coat to complete the picture, moved soundly, I will follow his progress with interest RCC

2nd      Gaylor & Robertson’s Gilstonia Run Red Rum for Aprilflash – another nicely put together youngster, with lots to like, not the head of my winner, but has a good front legs and feet, well angulated quarters, shown in lovely coat and condition, and again moved well. 

3rd      Mercer & Mercer’s Amblelight Oleander

Class 7 - Novice Dog (Entries: 4 Absent: 1)

1st       Philipson’s Menstonia Endless Dreams – 1st in Puppy Dog

2nd      Burchmore & Bowd’s Lenamore Renegade Ai – nice headed boy, has really good neck and shoulders, well bodied, and shown in lovely order, moved well. 

3rd      Hillard’s Benoveor No Easy Way Out 

Class 8 - Graduate Dog (Entries: 2 Absent: 0)

1st       Gaylor & Robertson’s Gilstonia Run Red Rum for Aprilflash – 2nd in Junior Dog

2nd      Griffiths’s Merchinetes Padrig – pleasing head and eye, good neck and shoulders, topline and tailset all good, very nicely presented, nice mover 

Class 9 - Post Graduate Dog (Entries: 4 Absent: 0)

1st       Sutherland’s Jacranella Guardian Ai – he won this class on his well made front assembly and clean neck and shoulders, well developed middle piece well rounded quarters, shown in top order, moved well, close up at the end.

2nd      Reynolds & Mcilwaine’s Benoveor The Show Must Go On – again very nicely turned out, and has many of the qualities of one, lovely head and eye and correct shoulders, well angulated quarters and moved well

3rd      Lewis’ Kidenoan Behind Marek Von Trannon

Class 10 - Limit Dog (Entries: 2 Absent: 0)

1st       Williams’ Nyliram the Alibi for Trebettyn JW – now coming to his best, pleasing head and eye, well made front assembly and layback of shoulder, shown in lovely coat and condition, moved soundly.

2nd      Barkley’s Jacranella Galahad of Cherryheath (Ai) JW – Thought he was my winner as he entered the ring, lovely type Welsh, with classic head, and like his brother excels in front assembly, deep well ribbed body, good quarters and muscle tone, shown in lovely coat and condition, I thought his movement let him down today.

Class 11 - Open Dog (Entries: 2 Absent: 1)

1st       Gaylor & Robertson’s Sh Ch Heniveruce King of Brewers for Aprilflash ShCEx – my notes said wouldn't alter much about this boy, excels in most departments and shown in excellent condition, his handler gets the best out of him, sound mover CC & RBIS 

Class 12 - Special Beginners Dog (Entries: 4 Absent: 0)

1st       Johnson & Langley’s Santallina Coroebus – 1st in Junior Dog

2nd      Mercer & Mercer’s Amblelight Oleander – very well presented young man, good head and eye, the best of legs and feet, well developed middle piece, and good rear end, and moved well.

3rd      Griffiths’ Merchinetes Padrig

Class 13 - Mr. Danny Pritchard Special Memorial Stakes - Bred by Exhibitor Dog (Entries: 3 Absent: 1)

1st       Attwood’s IR Sh Ch Kylowen Drym SH CM ShCX Ir Vet Ch VW – lovely type Welsh with many qualities and looks well for his age, classic head, good front assembly, strong well developed body shown in lovely coat and condition, moves soundly 

2nd      Burchmore & Bowd’s Lenamore Renegade Ai – 2nd in Novice Dog

Class 14 - Good Citizen Dog Scheme Dog (Entries: 1 Absent: 0)

1st       Gough’s Julita Rukester – this nine year old looked really well, typical Welsh head, strong well developed body ,well angulated quarters, and moved really well.

I would like to thank the hard-working committee of the Welsh Springer Spaniel Club of South Wales for their kind invitation to judge the Bitches at the Club’s Championship Show. Thanks also to my stewards Anita & Brian Shears who kept the ring running smoothly. I enjoyed my day and along with my co-judge Mr Rowland Webb we agreed on our principal winners.


Class 15 - Veteran Bitch (Entries: 4 Absent: 1)

1st       Reynolds & McIlwaine Benoveor Can’t Buy Me Love – well presented, feminine bitch who appeals for type and balance. Pleasing head with soft expression, good spring of rib and well angulated. Moved out soundly with drive, holding correct topline and tail carriage BVB

2nd      Graham’s Aindrea Harleyquinn – another well presented girl, slightly stronger than winner all through, moved soundly fore and aft with good tail set and carriage

3rd      Attwood’s Ir Sh Ch Kylowen Demelza VW Ir Vet C

Class 16 - Special Working Bitch (Entries: 0)

Class 17 - Baby Puppy Bitch (Entries: 1 Absent: 0)

1st       Attwood’s Roxdale Wispa By Kylowen – delightful pup of 5 months with pretty head and mischievous dark eye. Lovely front and feet, good spring of ribs and well rounded rear. Moved out soundly with a happy disposition, look forward to seeing her develop.

Class 18 - Minor Puppy Bitch (Entries: 2 Absent: 1)

1st       Wallace’s Amblelight Meadow Orchid – 6 ½ months with lovely head and dark eye, nicely balanced all through with true front and good feet. Good depth and spring of rib for age, sound and happy on the move at one with her handler. BPB

Class 19 - Puppy Bitch (Entries: 2 Absent: 1)

1st        Wallace’s Amblelight Meadow Orchid – (rpt)

Class 20 - Junior Bitch (Entries: 4 Absent: 1) – a lovely class.

1st       Lewin’s Santallina Olympic Flame Over Vynesbrook – scored here for breed type with lovely head and expression, balanced all through with good bone and feet. Well off for ribs, short loin and nicely rounded rear. Moved true but just needs to strengthen in hind movement then will trouble the best.

2nd      Graham’s Slapestones Catoca – well made youngster, nicely balanced all through, stood and moved true with correct topline.

3rd      Ritchies Slapestones Finsch

Class 21 - Novice Bitch (Entries: 2 Absent: 1)

1st       Lockie’s Gwirgariad Shooting Star – 19 months and maturing well, pleasing head and expression. Ample bone with clean neck and well laid shoulders. Liked her depth of body, compact loin and well muscled hindquarters, moved positively covering the ground with ease.

Class 22 - Graduate Bitch (Entries: 2 Absent: 0)

1st       Lamport’s Glenbrows Hopefulness – lovely head and expression, ample neck and true front, slightly longer cast but very pleasing all through, so happy on the move, she covered the ground positively and true.

2nd      Yacoub’s Laithmoor’s Zoska – very happy girl out of a smaller mould, feminine head, compact body, found her a touch short in upper arm which gave her an untypical hackney movement in front.

Class 23 - Post Graduate Bitch (Entries: 4 Absent: 0)

1st       McIlwaine & Reynolds Ferndel Rebecca For Benoveor – appealed here for size and type, loved her head and dark eye, best of legs and feet, ample body for age. Well angulated fore and aft, which showed in her ground covering action and with a little more confidence on the move should have a bright future.

2nd      Cochrane’s Eiriandylis Confusion – lovely girl who presents a super outline on the stack, good head shape and nice eye, true front but would prefer tighter feet. Well ribbed with strong loin and hindquarters, moved out confidently.

3rd      Casey’s Tigerrock Amazing Grace With Willowmeana

Class 24 - Limit Bitch (Entries: 6 Absent: 0) – a pleasing class with depth of quality in all exhibits.

1st       Sutherland’s Jacranella Graceful (AI) – beautifully constructed bitch of good size and substance. She is feminine but has the strength to do a day's work. Nicely proportioned head with kind eye and excellent chiselling. Strong neck, well sprung ribs of good length and depth, stands on good legs and feet, firm topline, moved true up and down with effortless drive and covering the ground with purpose. Presented in gleaming coat and well muscled throughout. Delighted to award her the CC (her 3rd) and BIS in agreement with my co-judge

2nd      Casey’s Tigerrock Lit De Roses With Willowmeana – another excellent bitch who needs to be gone over to be fully appreciated. Full of breed type with pleasing head and expression. Ample bone but feet could be firmer. Correct angulation fore and aft, presents a good outline stacked and on the move, a very worthy RCC

3rd      White & Dimond’s Roxdale Premier Rose

Class 25 - Open Bitch (Entries: 2 Absent: 0)

1st       Ritchie’s Sarabande Dancing Queen At Slapestones (AI) JW – appeals for outline on the stack, good headshape but would prefer a gentler expression. Lovely bone and feet, ample body and nicely angulated throughout. Moved out soundly but lacking a little enthusiasm on the day.

2nd      Ferguson’s Julita Raindance At Teaselwood – lovely breed type, pleasing head and expression, ample neck good shoulders, true front but would prefer tighter feet. Moves well in profile but a little close going away.

Class 26 - Special Beginners Bitch (Entries: 3 Absent: 0)

1st       White & Dimond’s Roxdale Premier Rose – (3rd in strong limit class) lovely breed type with gorgeous head and expression, well made all through, sound and true on the move just wish she would use her tail to advantage.

2nd      Cochrane’s Eiriandylis Confusion – (2nd in PGB)

3rd      Yacoub’s Laithmoor’s Felka

Class 27 - Mrs. Mary Payne Special Stakes - Bred by Exhibitor Bitch (Entries: 4 Absent: 0)

1st       Lockie’s Gwirgariad Shooting Star – (1st in NB)

2nd      Barkley’s Cherryheath’s Miss Velocity JW – 10 years young very typy girl of good make and shape, with pleasing head and kind eye, she put on a good performance to earn her place.

3rd      Blackford’s Amblelight Adhara JW

Class 28 - Good Citizen Dog Scheme Dog - Bitch (Entries: 4 Absent: 0)

1st       Lamport’s Glenbrows Hopefulness – (1st in GB)

2nd      Morgan’s Benoveor Endless Love At Rubydown – (4th in LB) a lovely girl from every angle, pleasing head and expression, moves out soundly and freely but sadly not wearing her best clothes today.

3rd      Lewis’ Eiriandylis Magic Von Trannon JW
